Great location for the forbidden city and the local nightlife.Breakfast is good,if a little limited.
Really hard to find.Taxi drivers kept taking us to the wrong Red Wall hotel.
Good location for Forbidden City and main attractions close by. Not easy to find but no problems getting taxis nearby. Accommodation very good, comfortable bed, good toilet facilties
No contact about non availability of room booked for the first night. Substsitute hotel Ok but meant disruption to already booked itinerary. Breakfasts not that good, could have more options for both western and local breakfasts. Stretching description of Mountain view room as this was only available through the bathroom window. I don't believe any room had a clear view, but a minor point
- Location. Close to Jingshan garden. Can walk across to Jingshan garden or rent a bike a block away and ride to Drum Tower. - Old Chinese courtyard charm. - Spacious room with classic Chinese furniture design. - Hotel sent executives to check on me at the hospital emergency room while I was getting treatment for the scorpion sting. I was also accompanied by a hotel staff in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. - Hotel reimbursed my ambulance and hospital expenses. I didn't have to stay in the hospital. - I was presented a great bouquet of flower the next day after scorpion bite/sting.
- Got stung by a scorpion in the back of the neck and thumb while taking a shower !!! Had to go to the hospital in the middle of the night. Really painful !!! But I didn't die or lose an arm. Took Chinese medication given at the hospital. The pain (burning, tingling and numbing sensation) slowly subsided over a couple of days. I hope to be able to bend my thumb fully so I can give a thumb-up or thumb-down to anything (or this hotel) soon. - Had to pay the full hotel amount even though the scorpion sting ruined my vacation. - First floor room opens into the courtyard and I was worried about privacy issue since several guests like to sit outside in the courtyard on nice summer days and nights. Thick curtain at the door entrance can be pulled over to isolate the noise outside.
Interesting, traditional style small hotel in a hutong
Facilities in the room rather Spartan and chilly (in November), so needed room heater most of the time
I loved staying at the Red Wall Garden Hotel and would highly recommend it. The staff their were amazingly friendly and helpful. They helped book train tickets, collected them from the station, inquired about shows and even posted my postcards for me for a very small fee. Always happy to help and were most welcoming. A real asset to the hotel and guests. The rooms were really comfortable and beautifully laid out. The bathroom was a complete joy. After a hard day of pounding the streets of Beijing it was lovely to wash away the city grime in the amazing shower. Breakfast was great with the choice from either or both of the European or Chinese style menus. You get a great view from the breakfast room of the temples in Jingshan Park. The location of the hotel (right near the rear end of the Forbidden City) on the edge of a hutong was good. Interesting area, near some good sites. Quiet, tranquil and safe. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough. It was at the top end of our budget but thoroughly enjoyed being there. Had a lovely stay.
The only thing to mention about this hotel, and it's not really the hotels fault, it is a 20 minute walk away from the tube stop so be prepared for this at the beginning and end of your day. However, Beijing is so huge you'll be walking a lot anyway even with the tube station being in place. This wouldn't prevent me from booking with them again.
The staff was very friendly, they came to pick me up because the taxi drivers were not able to find the hotel
The taxi drivers were not able to find the hotel. The breakfast was good, not excellent
Staff, breakfast, nice room and very relaxing atmosphere
A bit pricy. Hot water was not working properly (20ºc), this was the only issue.
hutong atmosphere / architecture of hotel
Staff was very nice and helpful. Grounds nice, rooms good size with nice western bathrooms.
The only thing that most westerners would most likely be put off by is the entrance, it's a little hard to find. You have to walk about 30 steps down a small street and right down a very narrow ally, not very clean, but nothing to worry about...good photo oppertunities, lol I really did like staying here, enjoy!
City location was excellent, walking distance to the Forbidden City and Hou Hai areas. The hotel was located in a old style Beijing compound which was down a little sidestreet. There was no traffic noise.
Not very close to the subway lines in Beijing which made moving around more taxi dependent. The little side street was typical China (so a little dirty)
The best part of Hotel is its staff. I found them very friendly and helpful and it was not for tips. I stayed there only for a night during my stop over at Beijing but felt very comfortable at Hotel. Though there is no additional facility in the hotel, Wi-fi signal was weak in room but the ambiance, space and staff made it one of my favorite hotel in Beijing I would certainly stay in same hotel during my next visit. Having said that I would suggest this hotel to couple and family, it may not suit most of business travelers due to lack of facilities.
Location, at the end of a "hutong" and surprisingly modern and comfortable. A very interesting experience. Very quiet, fairly central. Great room. Excellent food if the cook is around. Lively hutong nearby with local shops and restaurants. Walking distance from North Gate of Forbidden City, but entrance is on South Gate. Next to Jingshan Park (with a must-see tower)
Staff members hardly speak English but they are friendly. Breakfast ok, but not great.
It is a stunning boutique hotel with the perfect level of calm to escape the bustling of the city. It is also 5 minutes from this amazing nightlife area just north around a lake, which is perfect for dinner. The only reason I didn't put all excellents, is because of a little difficulty communicating. Also my fault, I should know more Mandarin rather than relying on people to speak English.
It is very close to the touristy area to the south, which meant that food stalls down the road where charging ridiculous amounts to foreigners. Sim cards nearby were also hyperinflated. Very irritating to deal with all day long.
Relaxed place in a busy city. Nice location close to parks and forbidden city. Nice clean room. Friendly staff.
Room equipment can be done better. No fridge, no English tv. It is very hard to get a taxi from this location and far away from metro. The staff speaks barely English. The menu of the restaurant is very limited as well is the breakfast. It is located in the middle of a hutong which most taxi drivers dont know and which stinks.
The location is very good, close to the forbidden city and near very nice restaurants and shopping areas. Staff was good, but could improve in providing information on things to do. Our children liked the hotel (twin 9 years old) as staff was friendly and the set up created space for interaction with peers. We stayed for a week and had a great time in Beijing and in the Red wall Hotel.
for what was asked, additional facilities are warranted.
